About Us

We're committed to providing our guests with an eclectic dining experience – with focus on fresh, flavorful, and quality ingredients

Established in 2017, The Garden Bar on 6th provides a relaxed, yet polished atmosphere that complements our commitment to provide guests with a memorable dining experience – with focus on flavor and quality. The Garden Bar on 6th features a variety of chef-inspired lunch and dinner options, an extensive wine and beer list and hand-crafted cocktails.

The lunch and dinner menus at The Garden Bar on 6th feature flavorful options from gyros, flatbreads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts and more. Created with only the freshest ingredients, our guests can explore made-from-scratch menu options such as the Korean, a sandwich featuring our house-made bbq pork and Asian slaw, the dry-rubbed Applewood Smoked Pork Chop, or the Shrimp & Scallops, served atop our made-to-order sweet potato hash.

The Garden Bar on 6th is passionate about providing our guests with unique wine labels, with focus on small, sustainable wineries, from around the globe. Thoughtfully selected, our guests can enjoy one of our regularly offered 50+ wines by the glass - or bottle! In addition, our reserve list offers a regularly evolving selection of exceptional wines, to be enjoyed always.

With an exclusive spirits selection, The Garden Bar on 6th strives to create unique, delicious cocktails such as the Chai White Russian, the Stinger, the Filthy Old Fashioned or the alcohol-free Inflation of Violet. Additionally, our beer list offers a wide range of craft options, to include six rotating tap lines featuring Minnesota & North Dakota breweries.

Aside from dining, The Garden Bar on 6th invites guests to sit back and relax in our NEW lounge area, with extended hours from Thursday – Saturday, with regularly scheduled live music. We are proud to serve the Alexandria Lakes Area and look forward to seeing you soon!

Meet The Team

Mahrie (Anderson) Ohren / Founder

Mahrie Ohren was born and raised in the lakes area before enlisting in the United States Air Force. While enlisted, she was fortunate enough to live and travel abroad, which ultimately introduced her to a world full of flavor and a passion for experiencing culture through food and drink.

“Nothing beats experiencing Italy through a vibrant Sangiovese, Japan through a local favorite, Edamame, Germany through an aromatic Riesling, or England through a Lamb Gyro, sure to satisfy any appetite after enjoying craft beer at a local pub.’ ~ Mahrie

Following her time in the United States Air Force, Mahrie obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition degree before embarking on her journey as a restaurateur. Since, she is actively pursuing her sommelier certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas.

As travel was and is a large part of her life, Mahrie finds joy in bringing her experiences to Alexandria through food and drink ~ and hopes you do too!

Matt Ohren

Matt Ohren / Executive Chef

Chef Matt Ohren, a lakes area native, discovered his passion for cooking at a very young age. It was alongside his grandmother at their family cabin near Park Rapids, MN that he discovered the powerful role that food plays in human connection and experience. His genuine love of cooking ultimately led him to pursue a career as a chef, graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, College of Culinary Arts.

Chef Matt brings over 15 years of culinary experience to The Garden Bar on 6th and has worked amongst experienced chefs in the Twin Cities, Colorado, Nebraska, and North Dakota before returning to the lakes area.

While Chef Matt specializes in steaks, wild game, seafood, made-from-scratch dishes and enjoys the art of creative plating, his true passion can be witnessed first hand as he shares the kitchen with family; more specifically, kids! Whether it be working with the local elementary school in a culinary arts competition, mentoring teens considering a career in culinary arts or simply creating masterpieces alongside his niece, Eisley, or son, Paxten, his passion truly shines through.
